Bay’s {re}View: Naval Live Oaks – Old Quarry & Beaver Pond Trail

Looking to escape the daily grind and spend some quality time with your furry friend? I’ve got just the spot for you! Let’s explore Naval Live Oaks in Gulf Breeze, FL, a hidden gem with over 7 miles of trails perfect for you and your pup to enjoy.

Bay and I aren’t quite up for tackling all 7 miles in one go, so we’re breaking it down into a few adventures. This week, we started at the Old Quarry Trailhead and made our way down Beaver Pond Trail, clocking in about 3 miles round trip.

The trails here are pretty primitive, and Bay loved every second of chasing lizards and sniffing around. However, parking is roadside with no clear trail entrance or signage, which made finding the start a bit tricky. Once we got going, we noticed the lack of trail markers, but luckily, I had good cell service (thanks, Verizon!) and Bay’s Fi collar stayed connected (shoutout to AT&T), so we used our maps to navigate.

Most of the area is open with little shade, and the paths are mainly beach sand, so be prepared for sandy shoes. Keep this in mind during the hot summer months to avoid burning those pupper paws, and don’t forget to bring plenty of water.

Overall, this part of Naval Live Oaks gets three paws up from us! It’s a fantastic spot for a long hike, even if it lacks a few amenities. Happy trails!
